| Ambulance paramedics deal
with medical emergencies as well as complex non-emergency
hospital admissions, discharges and transfers. They work as
part of a rapid response unit, usually supported by an ambulance
technician or emergency care assistant.
As an ambulance paramedic could face emergency situations
ranging from minor injuries to serious casualties in a serious
accident on road and rail. Its main objective would be to
meet the immediate needs of people for the care or treatment.
In responding to a call, your work could include:
Evaluate the patient's condition
· Decide on the appropriate course of action based on clinical
needs
· Make quick decisions about moving the patient
· Use of advanced life support, such as electric shock (defibrillation)
to resuscitate patients
· To carry out certain surgical
procedures such as intubation (inserting a breathing tube
in the throat)
· Use of advanced devices to keep airways open airway
· Use of intravenous fluid therapy and drug therapy
· Administration of medications and injections
· Healing the wounds and applying splints.
