CAD Technician Job Descriptions |
| As computer-aided design (CAD) technician,
uses software to create design plans for buildings and machinery
in a wide range of industries such as engineering, construction
and manufacturing. You could work in 2D design, which is known
as surface modeling, and 3D design - called solid modeling. You could use surface modeling to draw a planar representation of a product, for example the design of a new vehicle. Customers could see the plans and comment before engineers build and test a prototype. In solid modeling, you can create a 3D display of a structure or component. Engineers can then use this, for example, to take a "virtual tour" through the interior of a new building to plan where to fit wiring, or "look inside" a piece of manufacturing machinery to see the improvements of the parties could be made. You could also use their designs to help prepare cost estimates on projects, and produce assembly instructions and maintenance manuals for installation technicians, maintenance and repair.
