Cartographer

| As a cartographer of his work
would produce maps and other detailed geographical charts,
surveys and graphs. This information can be used in many ways,
from maps for everyday use, a specialized graphics used by
the industry, the topography or the armed forces.
Your work might involve updating existing maps, or mapping
of the regions that have not been assigned before. You could
use the latest high tech equipment and techniques to gather
geographical information and to convert the data into visual
images and graphics. Tasks may include:
· Design maps and the addition of color, symbols and scales
• Use of desktop publishing and specialist image manipulation
software to produce and edit maps
· Checking the maps and graphics are correct and the scale
· Collection and analysis of remote sensing satellites and
other sources
· Work closely with surveyors and designers
· Use of geographical information systems (GIS) to model and
analyze the characteristics of the landscape
· Use of digital photogrammetric equipment to plot the heights
and positions of geographic features from aerial photographs
• Conduct topographic (land) and hydrographic surveys (marine).
