| Projects civil engineers plan,
design and manage. These can range from the relatively small
scale, for example, repair of bridges, through large national
projects, such as the Channel Tunnel.
Civil engineering is a broad term that encompasses several
specialized fields of engineering, as well as a civil engineer
could be employed in any of the following areas:
· Structural - dams, buildings, platforms and pipelines
· Transportation - roads, railways, waterways and airports
· Environment - water supply networks, drainage and flood
barriers
· Maritime - ports and sea defenses
· Geotechnical - mining, land and building foundations.
Many of these branches overlap, but in all areas, their typical

Talk with the client and other professionals such as architects,
quantity surveyors and builders
· Analyzing, mapping and materials testing data with computer
modeling software
· Drawing of plans and projects using computer aided design
software
· A judge if projects are feasible for the evaluation of materials,
cost, time and labor
· Assess the environmental impact and risks associated with
projects
· Preparation of tenders, and information to clients, public
agencies and planning agencies
· Manage, direct and monitor progress at each stage of a project
