| Clinical engineers use their
technical skills and knowledge to design, develop and improve
the equipment used in medical treatment and aftercare of the
patient. Their work can cover areas ranging from medical instruments
to the methods of rehabilitation.
Their work may include: · Improvements to test equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs and speech synthesizers (known as assistive technologies) · The development of artificial limbs, for example using microelectronic sensors that attach to the patient's own tissues giving more control
