| Design engineers research ideas and develop
new products and production systems used in their manufacture.
They also work to improve performance and efficiency of existing
products. As a design engineer can work in a variety of industries ranging from electronics to synthetic textiles, on projects as diverse as the redesign of a mobile phone to build motorcycle parts from carbon fiber materials.
His exact duties will depend on the project, but may include: · Research - using mathematical models to determine whether new developments and innovations to work and be profitable · Design - turning research ideas into technical plans for prototypes using computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided engineering (CAE) software · Testing - Data collection and analysis of prototype testing · Modify the design and test again - this process may go through several stages before a product is ready for manufacture or installation · The information - in writing or submit periodic reports on the progress of project managers and customers.
