Dressmakers made to measure clothing such
as dresses, skirts, trousers and blouses for their customers.
Often small independent businesses specializing in a certain
type of clothing like wedding dresses.
As a seamstress, their functions are likely to include:
• Discuss the customer needs
· Show the client's tissue samples and pattern books and advice
about what you can produce the best results
· Take action
· Adapting an existing model, or the production of a new model
especially for the customer
Work with the cost of the work, based on the fabric and embellishments
needed and the amount of time that work is likely to be
· Use the pattern to cut pieces of fabric
· Attacked pieces of fabric together with an accessory
· Placement of clothing and make adjustments to make sure
it fits perfectly.
Key Skills
· An interest in textiles and fashion
· Excellent practical skills
· The ability to visualise designs and lay out pattern
pieces
· An appreciation for detail
· The ability to deal tactfully with customers
· The ability to take accurate measurements and make
calculations
· Good eyesight
· Normal colour vision for matching threads and fabrics.
