Engineering Craft Machinist Job Descriptions

As an engineering craft machinist, you would make parts for machinery, for example power station turbines and aircraft engines. You would use various machine tools like grinders, millers, cutters, lathes, drills and presses.
On a typical job, your tasks could include:

· Choose and set the machine tool for the job
· Planning of different work phases following the instructions in engineering
· Set tolerances on the machine
· Work the cutting speed
· Placing a more or less pre-formed "blank" to participate in the jaws of the lathe, or bed of a mill or grinder
· Monitoring the progress of work
· Checking the quality of the finished products.
