Mediator Job Descriptions

| Family Mediators help couples separate or
divorce agree on arrangements for their children and finances
so they do not have to resort to the courts.
As a family mediator, it would be a neutral third party helping
clients discuss issues constructively. You are not advising
people to make decisions or give legal advice, but perhaps
legal information if it helps clients make informed decisions.
Your job would consist of:
· Meeting customer jointly or separately, to explain the mediation
process and identify problems
· Holding further meetings until the problems are solved
· Listening to the feelings of each party and the concerns
· Information on the Recovery of customers' financial circumstances
· Discuss issues such as the child's residence and contact,
property and money
· Suggest and discuss viable solutions
· Help clients to consider all options
· Discussions maintain fair, equitable and focused
· Maintain accurate records and confidentiality of the discussions
· In summary written agreements
· Recognize when mediation fails
· Serve as liaison with lawyers and the courts when necessary.
