| Farriers
make and fit shoes for horses. They use similar skills to
blacksmiths but blacksmiths cannot shoe horses unless they
are registered as farriers.
As a farrier you would:
· Make sure the horse's leg, foot and helmet, cut off any
excess hoof growth and ensure that the horse is well balanced
· Choose the most appropriate type for the horse's shoe size,
foot condition, type of activity and working conditions
· Making shoes by hand or machine
· FIT shoes either hot or cold
· Adjust the shape of the shoes, if necessary, using a hammer
and anvil
· Work with equine veterinary surgeons and hospitals to provide
corrective shoeing and surgical hardware.
