vessel skippers Masters of fishing vessels in total cargo
ships out to sea to fish. Work patterns in coastal vessels
that fish near the coast, boats in the limited area that fish
within a defined area around the coast of the United Kingdom,
and unlimited area vessels working in areas remote fishing
in international waters.
As an employer, your responsibilities include:·
Planning of the fishing
· Operation and maintenance
· Sailing ship
· Security and management of the ship and its crew
• Work closely with the agents on the ground to land and sell
the catch
· Make fishing trips to obtain benefits.
Key Skills
A willingness to work at sea in all
weathers, sometimes for long periods
A knowledge of the sea, weather patterns, electronics and
basic engineering
An understanding of British and international fishing vessel
regulations
The ability to lead and manage a team working in often difficult
conditions
The ability to take responsibility for your own and the crew's
safety
Calmness under pressure
The confidence to make quick decisions in emergency situations
First aid skills and the ability to carry out emergency medical
procedures
A good level of fitness and stamina, and a good sense of balance
Commercial awareness.
