Job Descriptions

| Glaziers cut and fit new
glass panels and other materials in commercial buildings,
industrial and domestic. Jobs can range from installing double
glazing a house to the installation of windows in an office
complex. Glaziers also perform glazing repairs including windscreen.
In a small glass, is likely to work alone. In large commercial
projects, which will be part of a team of glass, in collaboration
with other trades such as carpenters and joiners.
In a job, you must:
· Select the right pane, according to his purpose, for example,
a window glass or tempered safety glass in a bank
· Remove old or broken panels, using tools such as suction
cups (for larger pieces), chisels and tongs
· Clean or putty old accounts of the frames
· FIT glass and make the time set by the use of sealants,
strips of rubber or of lead and aluminum flashing.
Key Skills
· The ability to follow drawings and plans
· Good practical skills with a careful and methodical
approach to work
· The ability to take accurate measurements for glass
cutting
· Good numeracy skills for calculating quantities
· An awareness of safety issues, particularly when
working at heights
· A reasonable level of fitness
· The ability to work as part of a team and alone
· A polite and professional manner for dealing with
customers
· A creative approach to colour and shape for some
specialist jobs.
