Hearing therapists work with children or adults who suffer from hearing loss, tinnitus or a balance disorder. As a hearing therapist who work in hospitals and the community as part of a multi-disciplinary staff, including audiological, medical and social work. Its tasks include: · Clients advice and their families to help them adapt to hearing disorders and loss of balance • Discuss the ways that daily life can be affected and goal setting
· Assess the rehabilitation needs of patients in order to provide care programs · Maximize the hearing by creating individual programs that could include lip reading and other communication skills · Patients who are appropriate for evaluating cochlear implants or bone anchored hearing aids • Patients with complex needs such as managing the loss of two senses (hearing and sight) or learning problems · Keep a detailed record of treatment and progress · Attendance at case conferences and team meetings. Key Skills · Patience and understanding · A caring and supportive approach · Good communication skills · Clear speech which can be easily lip-read · The ability to teach and explain instructions to clients of all ages and abilities · An interest in the theoretical and scientific background of treatment · Strong problem solving skills · A practical outlook to tackle the everyday problems faced by clients · Good team working skills. |
