Operating Department Practitioner Job Descriptions

Operating department practitioners (ODPs) support operating theatre staff and provide care to patients, before, during and after surgery.
As an ODP your duties would include:
· preparing the operating theatre and equipment such as drips, instruments, dressings and swabs
· monitoring machinery
· preparing specialist equipment for specific procedures
· making sure stocks of items such as drugs and other single or multiple use items are ordered and rotated properly
· providing the surgical team with the items they will need during an operation (often called 'circulating duties')
· Keeping accurate records.
