Quality control technicians, or quality assurance
technicians, work across the manufacturing and commercial sectors,
and are responsible for carrying out checks on products and
processes to make sure that they meet national and international
quality standards, such as ISO 9000, Matrix and Investors in
People.
As well as carrying out checks, you would also set up and help manage quality control systems for companies. Your exact duties would depend on which industry you were working in but the examples below give an indication of the kind of work you might do. Food and drink manufacturing: 1. Finding and removing faults at fixed stages of the production process (known as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) 2. Taking microbiological, chemical and physical samples for testing 3. making sure labelling is accurate 4. Checking that production methods meet relevant legislation. 5. Manufacturing engineering: 6. monitoring each stage of the production process 7. Using statistical analysis to make sure that components fall within tolerance levels 8. Inspecting materials and products for defects, using a combination of visual checks and non-destructive testing (NDT) 9. Some duties would be common to most industries, such as: 10. Dealing with customer feedback and complaints, and passing on issues to managers where necessary 11. Assessing and rating suppliers 12. reviewing and updating quality control and assurance policies when new quality guidelines appear 13. training and mentoring new staff 14.
