Quarry Operative Job Descriptions

As a quarry operative,or quarry worker, you would work in quarries and opencast mines, excavating rock and minerals and processing them to make products for industry, for example:
· quarrying limestone for cement production
· crushing rock to make stone chippings and aggregates used in road construction
· Extracting clay for brick-making, and slate for roofing.
There are various duties within a quarry, so your job could include:

· working with heavy plant machinery such as excavators, draglines and cranes
· operating processing equipment like rock crushers and stone graders
· setting up and using drilling equipment
· carrying out maintenance on vehicles and machinery
· setting and detonating explosives, known as 'shotfiring'
· Transporting materials with large tipper and dumper trucks.
