As
a member of the town planning support staff, you would help
to process planning applications submitted by individuals
and organisations. The role is a broad one, covering everything
from giving advice to the public through to technical planning
and office duties.
Your main tasks could include:
1. preparing reports for internal and external publications
2. recording minutes at meetings
3. building and managing technical libraries, filing systems
and databases
4. drawing up designs, using computer-aided design (CAD)
software
5. carrying out data surveys, for example traffic impact
assessments
6. supplying information and data to planners for applications
7. recording the progress and outcomes of planning applications
8. organising public meetings
9. Answering enquiries about application procedures.
10. You might also work in planning enforcement, which would
involve:
11. working with individuals, organisations and developers
to make sure that they comply with the conditions set out
in their application decisions
12. gathering information to use as evidence in disputes
13. Presenting reports on breaches to planning committees
or, where necessary, to magistrates and judges.
You would usually work for a local authority, independent
planning consultancy, government department or a private
company, for example a property developer.
