Train Driver Personal Statement
|
I have worked as a train driver for British Rail
for the past seventeen years. The work involves transporting passengers.
As a train driver I am responsible for the safety of passengers
at all times because I also carry out daily guard duties. These
were done by guards, but due to government spending cuts drivers
also had to take this role on, I must admit I quite enjoyed it.
The tasks that I undertake include checking the engine and general
state of the train prior to starting each journey. I ensure the
precise route is known and agreed with the control centre. I enquire
about the problems affecting the route. I have to maintain an awareness
of track conditions and weather conditions. I follow safety regulation
all the time. I follow signals. I keep the train under control all
the time and at the right speed. I keep control of the brakes. I
make announcements to passengers. I alert the driver taking over
about incidents or engine issues.
I would like to use my knowledge gained as train driver for the
position of control room assistant direct guide train drivers throughout
their journeys. I will be the best person for the role because I
am a quick learner and can adapt to any environment with great ease.
