Tread carefully with this question
– you can really shoot yourself in the foot here if you answer wrong.
If you state a salary too low for the role applying for/experience/
qualifications – you can be seen as either selling yourself too
short or not having the confidence in your own capabilities to the
job. Worse yet – the employer may take advantage and start you on
that particular wage. If you
sate a salary too high then you can be seen as overestimating
your capabilities and self-importance and in most companies (maybe
not in a sales environment) employers are looking for individuals
that are not arrogant but capable.
First Answer
I would expect a salary, which reflects the experience and qualifications
that I bring to the role. What range do you have in mind?
If the employer asks, what range is that? {Specific
amount} The answer is: whatever the market rate is for somebody
applying for this position.

I've got a strong background in this industry and my skills
are a perfect match for this role. I would expect my compensation
to be at the upper end of the position's salary band.
Can you tell me what that salary band is? (You your judgment
when it comes to asking this question – as you should already
have done your research.)
Third Answer
Based on the information I have about the position, a salary
in the range £28,000-£32,000 would reflect the experience
and expertise that I would bring to the role.
