Don’t worry help is here!! I have been to tonnes -I don’t really know what that says about me.

You’re probably the usual advice about researching the company, preparing interview answers to their dreaded questions and never asking about the salary unless it has been brought up first – so I am going to give you some overlooked tips that you should always remember.

Get to the interview early, approximately 10 – 15 minutes.

If you are going to be late always call.

Be clean – it may seem obvious, but there are thousands of people that turn up without grooming themselves beforehand and abiding by the rules of personal hygiene.

Not too much perfume/aftershave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When arriving at the company – smile and be friendly to absolutely everyone. You never know who is who just by looking.

In my last job, I was interviewing for internal positions and happened to be covering the reception when a candidate came in soaking from the rain and rudely shoved the wet newspaper that she was using as an umbrella, into my hands and demanded some tissue. When I told her that I was Hannah and that I would be interviewing her she turned bright red and muttered her apologies – she did not get the position. Obviously she didn’t have the right for the skills for the job, but that incident didn’t help her.

Print off a few CVs in case the interviewer has not read yours or there is more than one interviewer present.

Know your C back to front.

Use humour when appropriate – never make fun of the interviewer or other people. Try not to make fun of yourself; you do not what to come across as inadequate.

Smile

10. Not like a maniac.

11. Make eye contact with the interviewer. If there is more than one, try and make eye contact with each and give them equal time.

12. Learn how to shake hands. This may sound weird but you don’t even know how many people give bad hands shakes – firm and no more than 2-3 up and down shakes.

13. Do not sit until you told to.

14. When offered a drink – say yes even if you are not thirsty. This gives you time to prepare yourself further and calm yourself down before the interview starts. It also builds rapport with the interviewer.

15. Sit properly – up right, not to upright so you look stiff and uncomfortable, but more relaxed. Ladies, remember to keep your legs together even if you are wearing trousers – I personally couldn’t care, but some people are fussy.

16. If you gesture a lot whilst you speak – try to tone it down. Gesturing is great for expressing your point but you don’t want to look crazy.

17. If you don’t know what to do with your hands then copy Jonathan Ross – hands resting on lap and fingers touching.

18. Have a note pad and pen – make sure you take notes. Not only does it make you look really interested but you can collect vital information that you can then build upon and then form a question around it.

19. Be calm and confident and if you’re not – then fake it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before the interview you could always picture yourself when you feel most comfortable.

That’s all I have now – jogging has taken it out of me, so I’m off to bed.
